In 1875 the teacher Wilhelm Görges and Richard EN Twopenny from Australia introduced the game at the Johanneum in Lüneburg. The sports-political situation made it possible for Guido von Mengden, Josef Klein, Georg Xandry, Wilhelm Erbach and the then DFB President Felix Linnemann to bring their National Socialist ideas and convictions to the associations. In it, co-author Karl-Adolf Scherer took a critical look at the then President Felix Linnemann and the managing director of the West German Gaming Association, Josef Klein. Ferdinand Hueppe from DFC Prague was then elected the first president of the DFB. The 112-page football yearbook 1938 dealt with the World Cup in France, in which the Greater German team failed in the first round, the round of 16, on just one page. An indication of the precarious position of football in the Third Reich is that they also applied to host the 1938 World Cup, but then gave up without giving a reason. After the defeats at the 1936 Olympics and the 1938 World Cup, the Nazi leadership largely turned away from football, although its position in world football was still quite impressive: the DFB provided Ivo Schricker, Secretary General of FIFA, four German players (Jakob, Kitzinger, Goldbrunner and Lehner) featured in a FIFA friendly in Amsterdam and two others (Albin Kitzinger and Anderl Kupfer) featured against England in a continental European squad.
Even before the founding of the DFB, there were "original international matches" with selected teams in which players from Berlin dominated. As the national football association, the DFB organizes its selected teams, the German national soccer teams, and appoints the national coaches. Other cross-zonal matters, such as the staging of the German championship, were previously regulated by a football committee founded in Essen in 1947 under the direction of Peco Bauwens, which, in addition to Bauwens, included Hans Huber, Walter Dinger, Heino Gerstenberg and Prüfer. It was there that Herberger also found out that due to a decision by Tschammer von Osten, the Greater German team was to be formed from "Reich German" amateur national players and at least five (until then) professional "Austrian Germans". The new top 5 are chosen weekly from the top 5 and five new releases. Two of the participants will be determined in intercontinental playoffs. Above all, with the help of the chairman of the German Reich Committee for Physical Exercise (thus dominating all German sports associations such as DFB and NOK), Reich Sports Leader Hans von Tschammer und Osten, the ideal image of the Nazis could be implanted in all German sports. However, the nationalist squad within the DFB was also much larger than this and was largely dominated by a triumvirate of the German Reich Committee and the Reich Association for Physical Exercise, Lewald-Dominicus-Linnemann, particularly by its Secretary General Carl Diem.
Despite all the oaths of officials loyal to the line, the DFB was deprived of its livelihood by a decree of the Reich Sports Commissioner in June 1933, when 15 new professional associations replaced the old German Reich Committee for Physical Education and one (Fachamt football) was founded. Even the successful introduction of the Tschammer Cup as a German club cup – which was well received by footballers – could not hide this. The Spaniards (2:1) and Sweden (1:0), who were rated much higher, were defeated so that even the 0:1 defeat against Brazil could not prevent them from winning the group. A historic encounter took place in Madrid on May 15, 1929: Spain met England, who at the time had never lost a game against a team from outside the British Isles. In the first game of qualifying for Euro 2020, record goalscorer Edin Džeko became the first player from Bosnia and Herzegovina to earn his 100th cap. Hans Tilkowski was the first goalkeeper to receive the title in 1965. Walter Sanss from Dortmund was appointed as the first full-time managing director, which meant that the first DFB office was set up in his house at Gutenbergstraße 43 Dortmund. Together with his former father-in-law and long-time Fifa President João Havelange (Brazil), he had received around CHF 22 million in bribes from the ISL.
